As we head into the winter season, all the fall sports at Blue Springs South have ended. The Jaguars won conference championships, beat rival schools, and had best finishes in school history this fall.
In cross country, the girls finished second place at the Missouri Class 5 state meet with Ashlyn Wahrenbrock (11th place) and Ella Rew (13th place) being all state. They also won the conference meet this year, where Ella Rew won the individual title. This was the third time in the past four years that the girls’ cross-country team won the conference meet.
Moving onto the football team. The Jags finished with a record of 8-3. They went 7-2 in the regular season before getting to the district tournament and beating Blue Springs High School in the semifinal district game 19-14. Then losing the district championship to Liberty High School 28-7. South beat cross town rivals Blue Springs Wildcats twice this season, once in the regular season and the other in districts. They ended up with a 5-2 record against teams in their district this season. They had two running backs rush for 1,000 or more yards in senior Kendrick Hawkins Jr and junior Darius Morgan.
The girls’ volleyball team at South finished with a record of 13-23. They won the class 5 district 5 tournament and beat Blue Springs in the district championship 3-2. They then moved onto the class 5 state tournament and lost in the first round to Ozark High School 3-0. Jaelyn Tunley was all state for Missouri Class 5 and finished her high school career with more than 1,000-career kills.
The girls’ golf team finished sixth in their conference. They finished ninth in the district tournament. Individual senior Zoe McVey finished fifth place at the district tournament and moved onto state where she finished 55th.
The boys’ soccer team finished with a record of 14-7-1. They finished second place in their conference. Senior Kaden Edwards broke the single season goal record with 32 goals. The Jags ended up losing in the district semi-final game to Blue Springs High School 1-0, where they were trying to beat them for a third time this season.
The Boys swim and diving team won the conference meet this year. They finished 11th as a team at state. Judson McIntosh took fourth place in the 50-meter free and in the 100 meters. The Jags diving team had Kingston Tolen finish seventh place and a ninth-place finish by Brayden Diehl. They also placed 10th in the 200-meter free relay and 12th in the 400-meter free relay. Hayes McIntosh broke the freshman record in the 100m breaststroke. Judson McIntosh broke the school record in the 100-meter free.
The Blue Springs South softball team was conference champions this season. They finished with a record of 23-7 this season and went undefeated at home. They had a record of 12-2 against teams in their district. They lost the district semi-final game to Rockbridge High School 7-1. Ava Wilmes ended her career at South with first team all-conference, first team all-district and first team all-region.
Next up is boys Cross Country. The boys finished 2nd place at the district meet, the highest they have placed in school history. Kendrick Haines ran the second fastest time in boys’ school history with a time of 15:44.70. The boys went to the state meet as a team for the fourth year in a row. They placed 10th at the Missouri Class 5 state championship race, the highest finish in boys’ school history.
The Jaguars girls’ tennis team finished with a record of 8-7. They also finished with a record of 6-6 against teams in their conference. The Jags beat Blue Springs High School in the district quarterfinal match 6-1 to advance to the district semifinals. They ended up losing 5-1 in the district semi-final match to Pembroke High School to end their season.
