Life is hard in the tiny village of Anatevka. You must work yourself to the bone to be able to get by and hopefully marry someone better off than yourself. While there is hardship, there are constants that make life bearable. These traditions help each person to know who they are and what’s expected of them. Truly, without these traditions, life would be as precarious as being a fiddler on the roof.
This year, the Blue Springs South theater department will perform the musical “Fiddler on the Roof.”
Set in the small town of Anatevka, it follows Tevye and his family as they watch their lives change in Imperial Russia. Three of his five daughters have romances without Tevye’s consent, which goes against their usual customs. They all must find their way through their changing traditions and what was once a predictable life.
