As November comes around the corner, elections continue to creep up on us as well. Here at JagNewsOnline, we are going to provide coverage of the upcoming elections, including ballot issues, statewide office elections, the U.S. Senate election, the U.S. House of Representatives election, and the presidential election.
Though underclassmen cannot vote and the seniors who are able to vote are not in the majority, that does not mean we should ignore it and act like it doesn’t affect us. This upcoming presidential election will affect every high school student in South. By the time the next presidential election comes around, the current freshmen will be graduating and able to vote. The future president will affect their whole high school career.
And it’s important to not just pay attention to the presidential election, but to the state and local elections as well. Those candidates and their policies will affect us even more. These ballot issues will shape our laws and life.
To understand these elections and issues now helps us understand our country and hopefully be more informed in the future.
To make sure that you know information about these issues and elections, we will be posting a series of stories here on JagNewsOnline.
A story over statewide office elections will be posted. It will include the governor, lieutenant governor, and secretary of state races.
A story over the state senator election will be published. It will include an overview of the election and the candidates.
Today, four ballot issue stories will be posted. The first is over Proposition A, which is about minimum wage, the second over Amendment 2, which is about gambling. The third will be over Amendment 3, which is reproductive rights and the last will be over Amendment 7, which is about voting rights,
There are two other ballot issues, Amendment 5 which will allow gambling boats on the Missouri and Mississippi River, and Amendment 6 which will give more funding to law enforcement. However, we chose these four as they affect highschoolers at South the most.
Today, there will also be a state representative election story will be posted. Blue Springs is in two different districts, so the story will cover both of those elections and each of the candidates.
There will also be a story that overviews a student survey put out by JagNewsOnline.
Finally, a presidential election story will be published today. It will include a comparison of each of the candidates and what they stand for.
This following Tuesday is Election Day. Students have that day off.
If you are a senior and are able to vote, please do so. This is how you can make your voice heard, this is how you make a difference, this is how you can change our country for the better.
Please take the initiative and go out and vote.
