Jennifer Unruh, a counseling secretary at Blue Springs South has started her first year at South. She is ready to build her own connection to the South community.
Even though she has been connected to Blue Springs South for the past 20 years or so because of her daughters who are now South graduates and her husband (Ryan Unruh), who is a social studies teacher and a cross country and track coach at South. She is ready to build her own relationships at South.
“I look forward to having more of my own connection to South outside of my husband and daughters,” says Unruh.
She is excited about being at Blue Springs South and is excited to get to work with high school kids.
“I think South is a great community, I really enjoy being around high school aged students,” Unruh Said.
Being around high school kids has been normal for her, as she has had two daughters who graduated from Blue Springs South in the past 4 years who are now at the universities of Arkansas and Missouri.
“Now that my daughters are off to college it’s still nice to continue to be around high school kids,” Unruh says.
Unruh, who grew up in Parkville, Missouri and graduated from Park Hill High School, got her degree in Biology at Mizzou. That happens to be the same university that her youngest daughter attends right now.
“Go Tigers,” she says.
Before Unruh had kids, she worked in sales. Then once she had kids, she was a stay-at-home mom until they grew up. Most recently she was a legal assistant and now she finds herself at Blue Springs South. So far at South she has enjoyed her time and looks forward to being one of the first people who gets to interact with students.
“I like helping students, I get to be one of the first people that students interact with and it’s fun getting to know those people,” Unruh Said.
Unruh is thankful for her coworkers and everybody who has helped her in year one so far. The job can be stressful at the start of the year but having good people around her has helped her a ton.
“Everyone here has been very supportive and helpful to me,” she said.
As she starts her new job, she is ready to continue being around the South community and making more connections.
“I look forward to just continuing being around South,” Unruh says.
