A new teacher, Kolby Lee, has come to Blue Spring South to teach Industrial Arts, which is home maintenance, manufacturing technology, woods and metals.
Before Lee was a teacher, he was a mascot for his college in Mizzou. He was Truman the Tiger.
Also, he did construction that got him into wood shops and metal shops and more. He refinished basements, tiled bathrooms, hung drywall, and then he started teaching.
He stated that he did woodwork, so he also is building tables that he is selling on the side.
Though he is new to Blue Spring South, he’s no stranger to the district.
“I was a biology teacher for 17 years,” Lee says. “I started at Sunnyvale middle school for four years.”
Yes, some may be familiar with Lee because he also taught at the Freshman Center last year at Blue Springs High school where he taught biomed and biology. Then he moved down here to Blue Springs South.
He grew up in Blue Springs, and went to school at Blue Springs High School, so he’s very familiar with this kind of school but south layout is different.
He also said that it’s different wearing blue and green because he’s used to purple and gold since he graduated from Blue Springs High School.
Lee had said that he likes Blue Spring South and how different it is and welcoming, He enjoys having older kids since he has been with middle schoolers and freshmen.
Lee said he was looking forward to working with students.
“I’m looking forward to building cool projects, building some things that kids will remember for the rest of their lives, and hopefully take some of those skills and be able to use them throughout the rest of lives around their house,”He said.
Lee even added that the staff is also very positive. Overall, Lee said that he was excited to be a Jaguar and stated that his children will be coming here in a few years.
