February 16, 2018
Junior Lucy Petet, an active participant in the South’s concert and marching bands and a member of the Modern Language Club, is named February Student of the Month.
When it was announced in her third hour class, her teacher, Ashleigh Bertrand, came in and gave her the award, explaining why she earned the title of Student of the Month.
Petet said that she was surprised to find out she had won the award.
“It was really surprising. I had no idea that I had a chance at winning, so it caught me off guard when Mrs. Bertrand came in and talked about me and gave the award,” Petet said.
Petet was chosen for her involvement in band and other activities, her participation and dedication in the classroom, and her friendly personality.
Bertrand explains why she nominated Petet for Student of the Month. Aside from being a strong student, she is also known for her cookies.
“Lucy is a hard working, responsible, student who always finds ways to be involved in the classroom. Her calm, open nature allows her peers to feel comfortable around her. Plus, she makes amazing cookies,” Bertrand said.
Petet also openly participates in class discussion and has been recognized by Bertrand as an open-minded person.
“She is willing to look at every issue through multiple lenses to best understand causes, concerns, and solutions,” Bertrand said.
Along with the complimentary parking spot, Petet gets the emotional satisfaction of knowing that her teachers have recognized her hard work, responsibility, kindness, and openness in school.
“It feels good to be recognized,” Petet said.
